MARTIAL ARTS

Where personal development is our priority!  Respectfully serving the West Lake Hills area of Austin  (MAP) for over 17 years! Thank you for your interest in Westlake Taekwondo Academy of Martial Arts in Austin, Texas.  Taekwondo is a Korean martial art similar to Karate.  Our style of Taekwondo incorporates the Chang Hon forms with modern training techniques designed to maintain the traditional aspects of Taekwondo while implementing a modern understanding of physiology for safety and effectiveness  We are not a full contact school.  Our classes are designed to improve athleticism, memory, flexibility, discipline, grades, and social understanding. All of our classes are designed to integrate learning with improved self-esteem.  You will learn self-defense skills and awareness while gaining a high level of fitness and positive self-image.  You will also gain confidence and coordination as your artistic expression improves.  Our adult classes are taught separately from the children’s because they require much different teaching strategies.  We encourage positive work and academic values.  All of our students are taught to respect what they are learning and to never misuse Taekwondo. New Taekwondo students begin their training as white belts and through several years of training and concentrated work, they attain their black belts.  At a formal testing a student can earn the next rank by displaying their knowledge of their current rank.  Our ranks are as follows:  White, White Advanced, Yellow, Yellow Advanced, Orange, Orange Advanced, Green, Green Advanced, Blue, Blue Advanced, Purple, Purple Advanced, Brown, Brown Advanced, Red, Red Advanced, Recommended, Recommended Advanced and Black.  Black belts start at 1st degree and go to 9th degree.  Each degree is broken into two parts.  Each rank is attained through consistent training and participation at a formal testing.  These testings are held six times a year.  Students are not required to attend every testing, but are encouraged to progress at their own rate.  It takes about 3 years to go from white to black and about 36 years to go from 1st degree to 9th degree.  Whether your goals are short term or long term, Westlake Taekwondo is here to help.   New beginners are starting every day.  Don’t be concerned about feeling nervous, you’ll be in a class with other beginners and in time you’ll be one of our advanced students.  Our class schedule is one of the most flexible in the industry.  Junior students (ages 4-6) attend 1-2 classes a week.  The rest of our students can attend up to 6 classes a week.  We recommend 2-3 classes a week, but your schedule is yours to manage.  For our complete schedule go to CLASS SCHEDULE.  As a black belt you may even choose to join our instructor program and become a member of our amazing instructor team.  As an instructor, you will enjoy working with exceptional students while learning communication and leadership skills. Through consistent practice and dedication you will soon experience the pride, physical and mental strength, and the honor that has always been associated with martial arts training.  You will also have the time of your life being involved with such a motivated group of people.  Where else can you train and compete where treating people with the utmost of common decency is the norm and not the exception?
